Well as we know Football Manager 2009 (FM09) is due to be released in roughly four weeks so to celebrate here at thefootymanager.com we have decided to have a little competition.
We have three copies of the new game to give away to the fantastic readers of the site.
How can I participate?
Well that is the easy part. All you have to do is comment in this article what you are looking forward to most in Football Manager 2009. It can be three words, a sentance, a paragraph it’s totally up to you. We’ll then randomly pick the winners from the comments in this thread and notify you by email if you are one of the three lucky winners!
Please notice that:
- participants can post comments until the 13th of November 2009. The comments will be closed on the 14th of November at 00:01 GMT.
- the winners will be determined by a random generator;
- make sure that you fill your e-mail in the comment field correctly, so we can contact you afterwards.
What can I Win?
Football Manager 2009′s match engine has seen more testing than ever before having been extensively beta tested in Football Manager Live for the past year.
The famous Football Manager match engine can now be viewed in full 3D with motion captured animations for the players. Sports Interactive has been working on the 3D match engine for nearly 3 years with the support of SEGA Japan’s Virtua Striker team who provided the motion capture data and some of the animations. You can now watch your matches in 3D from multiple camera angles and re-watch any part of the match by fast forwarding and rewinding the action using a new match time bar that flags the key moments in the game. The old 2D view of the match engine is still there, especially for those people whose computers aren’t powerful enough to take advantage of the 3D views.
As a result of usability testing on Football Manager 2008, this year sees widescreen support for the game for the first time, as well as lots of tweaks to the user interface for easier navigation.
Football Manager 2009 is fully updated for the new 2008/09 football season with all the latest league, club and player data, featuring over 5,000 playable clubs from over 50 countries, and around 350,000 players and staff from around the world, drawn fresh from the famous Sports Interactive database.
Sports Interactive have worked hard to reflect the greater impact the media has been having in recent years on the world of football, in the in-game dealings with the press. The game now features more news stories, more detail and greater media interaction than ever before, creating an even more realistic simulation of the football world.
When Will I Get My Prize?
Well the game is being released on the 14th November so we’ll select the winners and get the prizes sent out on that day. You should get the game through your letterbox on the 15th (the day after release) just in time for the weekend of FM09 abuse.
So spread the word of the competition to your friends, other websites and most importantly comment yourself to be in with a shout of winning.
The competition has now closed folks so the winners will be hearing from us in the next 24 hours!
Good luck, thefootymanager.com Team!
UPDATE – Congratulations to Paul Murrey, Carl Lightfoot and Frank Keegan our competition winners. Look out for more competitions in the near future.

Rohan November 3, 2008
one thing that im not lookin forward 2 is the 3d match engine… football manager is known for its unique portrayal thru the 2d match engine which was the classiest feature i hav ever seen in a manager game. this will put it in competitn with games such as fifa manager which have been utilizing the same engine for years… and sega graphics are not up 2 the mark. i really enjoyed having a complete overview of the game and will continue to use 2d in fm09 as well….it was the games trademark, and why i play it over other manager games.
Rohan November 3, 2008
discoverin the next wonderkid and adding him 2 my squad as well as retaining the champions league wit man united
Rohan November 3, 2008

i have a joke before spurs began to win games
Q: whats the different s with spurs and a triangle?
A: at least a triangle has 3 points
Q: whats the different s with Sheff utd and a teabag?
A: at least a teabag can stay in the cup for longer
FM09 will rock
J November 1, 2008

Phillip October 31, 2008
I am extremely excited about 3D Match Engine, this feature will add a lot more realism to the game and you'll able to see whether a decision should of been a Red Card!
Also being able to have press conference is great. Previous games just ask a single question which isn't realistic and because this game will have press conferences it'll it a lot more fun!
Finally be able to have youth days will let you choose what youth players you get not just randomly generated players. This will improve the chance of you get great youngsters
Adam Hopkins October 30, 2008
This will be the best game in the world because if fm 06/07/08 are good just think what fm 09 will be with the 3d version and with multiplayer this will just kick ass big fan Sports interactive are just the best for releasing this game wonderful and can't wait

Kennypop October 29, 2008
Well, I'm looking forward to FM09 taking over my life, keeping me away from friends and social gatherings, not getting me laid, keeping me up 24/7 so I'll probably end up with some wierd unknown sleeping disorder, do bad at school and probably get fired from my part-time job.
Omg, wonder what FM2010 can do with me
Thank you Sports Interactive, I may have to sue you!
- Cheers!
AntoHolic October 29, 2008

Sorry… i forgot to say what i look forward to most in FM2009… that would be in this order:
1) the 3D matches
2) improved transfers
3) improved training options for youngsters! finally they can learn preferred moves of their own!!
4) the press conferences
Hotshot October 21, 2008
What am i looking forwards to most…..? Getting a Nuclear Holocaust supply of food and toilet roll in, locking the house, drawing the curtains, saying ‘ttfn’ to my girlfriend, installing FM09 and deciding that long hobo beards look cool too right? As i prepare for 12 solid months of frustration, sweat, tears and self-harming as i try and take some lowely confrence south team to champions league glory!
BRING ON THE GOOD TIMES!
Gus October 21, 2008

Stephen Branney October 19, 2008
I am dreading the release of FM09. My wife hates it when i spend more time playing FM08 than I do with her. Plus we have our first baby due soon. Its torture knowing the game is going to be so good and that I will have to grow up and stop playing it so much! Although I will still try and fit it in my life even if it means waking up in the middle of the night for a few hours gametime!
Shaun Brooke October 19, 2008
Champ manager is the veteran of footy manager games, will never be forgotten – HOWEVER…
Footy manager is the cutting edge future of many peoples lives which it takes over! especially mine! it is the Cristiano Ronaldo of the manager games
Will eventually overtake every record going!

I really hope FM09 won't have as many bugs as the previous years, but very much looking forward to it!

Matt October 17, 2008
i'm looking forward to winning the treble with blackburn rovers
Phil October 17, 2008
This game is gonna be amazing. I cant wait to take over Newcastle with the hopes and dreams of finally bringing the Toon Army some silverware. Then I get sacked after 18 months, cant find a job, eventually take over something in League One cause thats all that will hire me. Meanwhile, my friends tell me how many trophies theyve won and how many bad transfers Ive made!
O yea.. the 3D will be awesome too.
tleonard October 17, 2008
looking forward to the 3d matches and better finanances/transfers!
BitterBucolic October 17, 2008
If I see another post starting with "I'm looking forward to" then I might just do nothing about it and probably forget what I just wrote.

tudor October 17, 2008
I'm looking forward t 3d matches like everybody else i guess…
And another thing is press and update att. for romanian players and teams! Gabi Muresan and Dubarbier are awesome! have you watched CFR Cluj games in Champions League?
I dunno if i should put this here but… there are some matches when you have tons of shoots and they have one or two and you lose.(i'm not saying that doesn't happen once in a while in real-life, but it happes once in a while not every match:D) cheers!!! CAN'T WAIT!!!
Dusan Jovanovic October 16, 2008
looking forward to the 3D engine for sure.
at last i'll be able to properly judge my players and what i want them to do. sick of not knowing whether a ball was crossed or just passed along the ground by a winger, or whether my attackers are booting the ball way off target or simply missing by inches.
also, i am really looking forward to taking my serbian side through the qualifications and on to south africa for 2010 WC for some just desserts after years of absence from the world stage.
and finally…..i have been way to nervous of managing my club, my RED STAR BELGRADE, in any of the previous issues of the game. it is too holy, too sacred to be meddled with by a lowly fan. but maybe just maybe if the game is as good as i'm hoping it can be, i will enter into service of the HEROES, and justify our champions cup from '91 in Bari.
CCCC
robert mercury October 16, 2008
I am looking forward to the improved fiancial aspect of the game, this is something that has been lacking for years and finally SI are listening to their game players. Over the past it is always been the case of the so called big 4 getting the most money in the transfer fund even if in real life they clearly dont have that much cash to spend, at last my beloved everton will have some cash to spend in the game COYB
Sami Tariq October 16, 2008
