Well last night saw the last of this seasons actual football being played (Confederations Cup) and before we know it the new football season will be upon us. As always the new football season generally means the next installment of our favorite football management game.

Don’t get me wrong I like FM09 but there is room for improvement.  Some things I’d like to see in the next version of Football Manager, Football Manager 2010:

  • I’d like to be able to ’shout’ (you know what I mean) instructions during the game to specific players while they are playing
  • Maybe be able to start as a youth/reserve team manager and work your way through the ranks of the club
  • Improve the 3D
  • Rework the tactics screens

I know Sports Interactive like to know what us fans would like to see in the next installment of Football Manager (Football Manager 2010) so what do you guys think?

Once we get a decent amount of comments I’ll let the guys at Sports Interactive know.

Maybe away to put more favourite teams on cause I like Chelsea but I also like Wycombe and Valencia. A feature so you can put your favourite personnels up, a way to custom-make your teams football kit so it doesn’t get boring after a while. and finally away to put your teams you would liked of played before you was a manager.

    so to recap

    - more favourite teams
    - place your favourite personnels up
    - re-make your teams kit
    - past teams you played for.

    :p

  2. Robbo says:

Much improved 3d from my point of view!

  3. Carl says:

International management is still a little bit shat. I’m sure they could do something more with it. I’ll have a think what mind you.

  4. Andrew says:

    Tactics at club better
start at youth or reserve management

    Psp version
start at youth or reserve management
    youth and reserve teams available
    interviews
    discepline

  5. MoDeO says:

A `room` with the trophies i have won !!! It will be briliant

  6. Zebay says:

a way so that the camera can focus on one player to see his performance

  7. Ross says:

    1. I think they should put the facilities builder on it
    2. the ability to shout instructions during matches
    3. be able to quck match

  8. Ross says:

    and easier training setup

  9. Mark Cook says:

I really think the idea of starting off in the reserve or youth team is a great idea!!

Also, I really want them to introduce more with training! Because choosing coaches and selecting different types of training just isn’t enough! We (the managers) should be involved in taining and choose different training methods and exercises etc.

  10. kosovo is serbia says:

    all players have pics
    all clubs have emblems
    all players have rating

  11. [...] What would you like to see in the next version of Football Manager? Let us know in our Football Mana… [...]

  12. Lambros says:

I would like to be able to make up my own set piece tactics. For example… corner and free kick strategies. I think also that there should be more options when interacting with players and managers.

  13. George says:

    improved 3D

Speaking commentator and music for when not playin games!!!!!!!!!

  14. Calvin says:

I would like to see improved 3d screen, more options for training, i like the idea of interacting with players during the game, more choice of feeder clubs from the start and better online play

  15. Kevin Masson says:

i think we should the real junior football players in scotland as we are also signed as profesionals

  16. fc bayern says:

If you are an international coach and your coaching a club at the same time you can try convince players on your international team to join your club! if your a manager of a club insted of just declaring interest in a player you could open talks with them trying to convince them to join your team

  17. Claude says:

I think that it would be good if we could start as reserve managers or even coaches , scouts or assistant managers

  18. phil warne says:

Maybe a challenge mode, where you start as a Womens head coach to prove yourself as a manager, then after that start as lower league manager too get as far as you can with maybe bonus points too collect for performane, tactics and financional control. Those points can be spent on upgrading you’r teams attributes.

  19. phil warne says:

we as the manager, can request a press confrence for new players and how our team is progressing and also to comment if a big player is speculation on transfer market.

  20. Mark says:

i reckon on the tactics screen you should be able to place your players anywhere, not just the set positions, you cant have like a rooney type forward without him playing as an AM and then they just play pants

  21. Nunu says:

    1) be able to communicate to the players during the match
    2) be able to work your way through the ranks at the club, i.e. starting as reserve coach etc etc
    3) not being able to work at a big club, must start in the lower divisions to work your way up (more realistic)
    4) press conferences to show off new signings

basically make it much more as what it is like in real life
also make the 3D much better (which im sure theyre doing anyway)

  22. Mandi says:

press conferences to show off new signings
To se the players in trainig
Have avilable to sing’s player from all of the world and avilable to sing player under 18

  23. Dan Egarr says:

    1) More press conferences, e.g. when you sign a player, poor run/good run, speculation…

    2) More interaction with players, both on and off the pitch.

    3) Selling the club, like sponsership, whats in the club shop, overseas investment to gain higher following.

    4) Negotiating for TV/champions league money

    5) Personnel relationships more realistic

    6) Allow more info when making manager, e.g. former clubs, country played for etc.

    7) Choose how many seasons you play for e.g 20/50/100

    8) Personal trophy room (loved this idea!!)

    9) Make phonecalls to individual ppl, e.g. call up sir alex and ask if u cn tke wellbeck on loan for the season and in exhange ul sell him that players hes admired. i duno…

    10) tapping up, scandals, failed drug tests, match rigging, u cnt do ne apart frm the tapping up.

  24. GIORGINIO says:

    I THINK SOMETHING THAT WOULD REVOLUTIONIZE THIS GAME IS TO PUT SOME GRAPHICS, I MEAN LIKE PRESENTATIONS, HALF-TIME HIGHLIGHTS, THE COMMENTATORS DEBATING ABOUT THE GAME LIKE ON TV; AND PUT MORE EMOTION WHEN YOU WIN A TITLE, LIKE SPORT MAGAZINES INTERVIEW,; A GOOD EXAMPLE COULD BE RONALDO’S TRANSFER IMPACT AND PUT IT IN THE GAME. ALSO WOULD LIKE AO OPTION WERE YOU START AS A YOUNG PLAYER AND YOU CAN IMPROVE;

  25. j says:

    * I’d like to be able to ’shout’ (you know what I mean) instructions during the game to specific players while they are playing
    * Maybe be able to start as a youth/reserve team manager and work your way through the ranks of the club
    * Improve the 3D
    * Rework the tactics screens

I like these ideas. I’d like to be able to scout matches as a club manager.Like when they say ‘Bernd Schuster’ is in the stands . The game would be even better if the user could be in the stands watching the match

  26. Lewis Owen says:

I love for us to be able to sign anyone!

For example, if I went Manchester City, they obviously dont ‘have a transfer budget’ and so maybe things like that can be improved.

I also wouldn’t mind the chance to interact with players more.

  27. Hotshot Hodson says:

Hi all, back again! Ok here’s my shortlist of improvements.

    1) Better graphics on the match engine. 09 was a solid start, now to get things looking sharper and smoother.

    2) Players shooting from just inside the opponents half reduced even when long shots are on low or off!

    3) WAY WAY WAY more options and responses on press conferences, the database for potential questions and answers should be colossal, or by the time you’ve done a season you’ll have answered every question with the same answer at least a dozen times.

    4) In press conferences, not getting asked the same question over and over until you storm out.

    5) I saw the new skin image on Twitter, it looks mint, definitely go with that!

    6) Trophy room would definitely be a nice touch (much like Tiger Woods games are able to do). Seeing in the awards page Champions league: 2009, 2010, 2011. Isn’t quite the same as seeing 3 champs trophy’s lined up as a graphics in a gleaming cabinet!

    7) I don’t think you should be able to start as a youth coach or scout, the game title alone would never work, Football Boot-boy 2010?! Keep it as manager.

    8) Having a rendering of the inside of the stadium would be nice, rather than a managers bench surrounded by a sea of pink. (although i understand that this increases the demand on graphics processing power and thus reduces the amount of lame PC’s that can run it)

    9) Man City management has an ‘unlimited’ kitty, rather than say 200mil and then you have to sell players and beg with the board as usual.

    10) More realistic board interaction: namely i had a fantastic game as Arsenal, over 6 seasons i’d won 5 champs leagues, 6 FA cups, 5 leagues, 5 community shields plus a host of other cups. I wanted a new feeder club, gave ultimatum and got sacked….thanks! (i did save before expecting such a thing to happen)

  28. Alexander Haakstad says:

All of this points you made are so true! Specially the one that we have to / can, start as a reserve manager or something else in a club but a manager. And it was a lot better to look at the game in 09 than 08, but there’s still room for improvements. Something i been dreaming about is that some day it is fifa graphics :) . But i understand that is kind of hard! PS. Cant wait to Football Manager 2010 !

  29. Adam says:

They need to improve regen creation. I think that the academy should be more ‘hands on’. You should be able to recruit kids(11-16), by having open days, and scouting the local schools / kid tournaments etc like clubs do in real life. At this age its the potential rating of a player that can be developed and not the current ability. This means that you can see the effects of having a great academy and a quality academy head coach.

  30. Steve says:

On football manager 2010, your wage that yu get payed for being the manager should actually go towards something, like buying a lamborghini ;)

Also the 3d match needs to lose sum bugs, such as the ball being at reinas feet for 5 seconds and him not picking it up and just watching joe cole run into the box and make it 1-1 :( ( btw i won tht game 3-1 ;) )Also i was told that gerrard had won world player of the year in an e mail when he wasnt on the candidates list, i was also told hed won european player of the year which he had buh he hadnt won the world player of the year lionel messi had and this annoyed me :L

  31. abz says:

You should be able to buy 2 players at the same time , and …
make the transfers more REALISTIC cuz i swapped berbatov for graffite ( both the same) and they didnt except
and wen i did c.ronaldo for benzema, they didnt except! its weird
they alseo charged me 167 mill for torres! how come rooney , or an of m players that much???

  32. abz says:

Oh ye! and we shud be able to change the kit , after every season if we want! and downloading facepacks and skins in stupid! cant u just hav all of them there!?!?!?!?!

  33. Dom says:

    1. More realistic transfers
    2. Be able to change the kit
    3. be able to choose training methods, i remember on a version for champ man that u got to choose what they did like a mini match, weights, and stuff like that.
    4. The tactics more realistic. in this game ronaldo has never scored 30 goals from right wing but last season he did.
    5. More than just the subs on the bench. have the manager and coaching staff.
    6. At the end of the game the players should clap to there fans and not just walk straight off.
    7. Have Refs/Linesmen making mistakes (e.g. offsides & penalties) to make the game more realistic.

I like many of the above comments but dont like the idea of beginning as youth coach and being able to shout things at the players however on the match screen you should be able to point the player to were he should be! I like 3, 4, 5, 8, 9 and 10 of ‘Dan Egarr’ list :) i would very happy to buy a game with these features in and believe it would make the game more interesting with features like 3, 4, 8, 9 and 10.

  34. Batesy says:

Being able to shout instructions during the game would be a real bonus. For example if a player is having a bad game for some reason the game should present itself a position where a more positive outcome can be reached by having a word in his ear at the appropriate time.

Also i sometimes get frustrated by not being able to attract world class players to my club, either because they are under contract or they are not interested in joining the club, even if you have the funds.

I believe the game would be much more realistic if managers could illegally tap players under contract buy arranging a secret meeting or lunch to dicuss the possibility of a future transfer. Maybe after organising such a meeting the player may be more likely to sign at the end of the season.

I know there is a similiar thing in FM 09 where you can declare interest in a player in the media, and if you do it for long enough it can change the players mind. However in the modern football world, ‘money talks’ and by providing the players with prospective salaries for the forthcoming season it reflects upon todays game, rarely will a player stay at a club purely for the love of the side.

Or even when managing an international side, trying to convince some of the national players to join your club.

    What do you think?

  35. Jack says:

PLAYER SWAPS AND PART EXCHANGES!…..AND BETTER 3D AND TROPHY ROOM

  36. marc says:

    make more cheap wonderkids.
make 3D work on less powerful computers

  37. Will says:

they need to improve some stupid ways of kicking the ball.
I mean if they pulled their foot back and then kicked the ball for the follow through,
Also in my game, Rooney was facing his back to goal and then suddenly he smashed it in from 20 yards! Back heel?

  38. stefang says:

from my early years of managers ’til now, trading players have always been one way transfer. i have never able been to dump my players to other club in change for his player, with an adequate value of market money handed. on the other side, opposing team offering their lad to win our player will withdraw happily when we negotiate them. such withdrawals are done upon enquiries too.

secondly, there would be a nice idea to select youngs from academy, or at least draft proportional positions we really need in the squad.

third one, aside from the tutoring youngs, i have never seen a player fruits his talents off. that of e.g.: tries tricks, places shots, etc. should be great if a player goes blooming himself by playing matches and his characteristics matures.

forth, a real dynamic interface both inside and outside pitch is longing to be cherished too, that may include but not limited to journalists conferences, paparazzis, refs, and, player interactions that is not via any media hype.

lastly, sponsorship embedded to kits may well the boards’ authority, but wouldn’t it be real deal to ask a well seasoned talentful manager a recommendation?

  39. Hotshot Hodson says:

    11) The ability to loan players back to the club when buying players (especially youths). Manure and ‘Pool do this all the time with young players they want to buy, they get the offer accepted and leave them at their club on load for a season or two to continue to develop with the coaches and players they’re used to (also schooling i’d imagine)

    12) AI having a better ability to negotiate transfers, there’s been so many times where i’ve offered 15mil for a player worth 10mil, computer comes back with make it 20mil, i offer 16, they come back with 21mil and so on. Learn to haggle!

    13) teams more likely to accept player exchanges, i don’t think it’s ever happened that i’ve offered a player plus cash and the AI accepts, they always refuse or come back with no play, just cash offer. Look at the recent move by Inter and Barca where Zlatan moves for 40mil plus Eto’o plus Hleb. Offer the same in FM, see if that works…i doubt it!

    14) Have your top level youth and training academy spawn the next Rooney. At clubs i’ve been at i’ve never ever managed to spawn a player with apotential rating over about 150, and that’s at top level clubs like Arsenal and Barcelona. Yet Everton managed it in real life with Rooney. I just want every now and then a player who is a real gem to come through, a 180/190 potential p[layer to come through who you protect and nurture like he were your own son who was made of solid gold and had 50ct diamonds for eyes!

  40. George says:

I have read quite a few on this wishlist and most people basicaly want this game back Ultimate Soccer Manager 98

  41. Ardern says:

    > i think you should be able design your teams kit.

    > have options for expanding stadiums such as entering how many more seats and things like that.

    > choose your own kit sponsor

    > able to play as youth manager, assistant manager, scout ect.

    > life like fans in the stadium

    > if your interested in a player you can interview him and tell him things about the club to make him join.

    > and able to manage a womens team or country would rock!

  42. [...] Football Manager 2010, it’s coming October 30th.  Some great new stuff in there most of which has been mentioned once or twice on this site along with some other slick new stuff.  Once again it’s great to see SI listening to what [...]

  43. chris holley says:

i have a few ideas for the new football manager !!!!

    > press conferences should show your manager actually talking to the press.
    > be able to manager reserve teams and youth teams or even be an assistant manager.
    > Be able to design a stadium and design it in detail eg. sponsors, seats, grass patterns, and dugout.
    >interviewing players and tell them about the club and your aims.
    > be able to wacth your players in action in training like the drills and in 5 a side macthes.

  44. ali says:

-improved Malaysian Super League & Premier League

-all clubs have emblems n players pictures

-managers enable to upgrade their facilities

-managers enable to interact with players on and off the pitch

    -improved tactics

  45. juvie says:

-> Be able to use our salary. ( House, car, luxury stuff etc.)

    -> More interaction

-> More reasonable AIs when negotiating.

  46. Jimbo says:

    1) I dont know how they do it but they need to make The Player Awards accurate, Eg. if Messi has Pl.40 , Scored 10 Assists 10 and Av Rating is 7.10 compared to Lucho Gonzalez Pl.40 scored 18 Assists 18 and Av.Rating of 7.45 and has helped me to win the league surely lucho should get the award!!

    2) Players pricing. If im managing a mid-table team and I have a striker who is a good player but not high profile and not highly priced and we do well in the league and he scores 20 league goals this should be reflected in his price, im not talking astronomical (maybe Lol) but a decent increase in price would be nice how else am i gonna raise money as Deportivo manager! And some players prices aren’t fair as well even when theyve had good seasons.

    3) For me its all about gameplay by that i mean keeping me interested, i dont mind if the grapics arent fantastic as i dont even mind using the 2D sometimes but more needs to be made of Victories and Competition wins rather then being forgotten to soon, like if R.Madrid have won the most leagues and Im athletico and were catching them on titles more has to be made of it, as ppl beeen saying a trophy room things like that. Interaction between clubs and Media rather than after few seasons i know the routine needs more stuff

    4) and improved tactics

  47. JB says:

definitely not make you start out with a low job or with a crappy club!!

    1. that would be annoying
    2. pointless
and 3. i would hate the game and just hack it and cheat again

  48. RikiHattanH7 says:

1- player and other staff actullay die after reaching a certain age… or having a car accident or being robbed
2- players have the abuilty to get married and shit..
3- being able to travel (lets say ur the liverpool manager, and ur team has a game against barcelona… ther should be press at the airport screenshots of the hotle and them members)

  49. RikiHattanH7 says:

Let me know you guys think about that!!

  50. ryan ferns says:

they should make it so you can appeal for a red card ban and actually win because in both fm 08 and 09 i have NEVER won an appeal so what is the point in this fixture? 9/10 of the times the commentator says it looked harsh and you still dont win the appeal
